2021 2896, Langley

2021 2896, Langley

Each year that we have the privilege of producing the 2896 Langley, the blend and the price vary. Unfortunately, we don’t get to make this wine every year; the summers have to be warm, and the fall has to be warm and dry. This creates the temperatures that the red varietals thrive in and produce the highest sugar levels, which we ferment out for fuller body and higher alcohol levels. After fermentation, we age the wine for a minimum of 18 months in new French Oak barrels. The cooperages we work with are of the highest caliber, and our barrels typically cost $1,000 to $1,200 each. We choose only the best barrels of wine for each vintage, and custom blend them to create our signature 2896 Langley Meritage blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon. In years past, the price has varied for the 2896 Langley based upon vintage quality and limited production.

The 2021 vintage was an abundant growing year.  Mother Nature provided a warm summer; the autumn did not have much rainfall, allowing us to keep the grapes on the vines longer to increase the dark skin color and ripeness of the fruit. The 2021 2896 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot all grown in our Langley Vineyard named after Spencer’s grandfather. If you choose to drink this wine now, enjoy the bright cherry and berry flavors from the fruit, complemented by the fresh cedar and cocoa notes from the quality of the French Oak barrels.  Spencer recommends aging this wine for 6-8 years if you are seeking more Bordeaux flavors of leather, barnyard and roasted coffee. This vintage will age well, if stored in a cool spot with the bottle on its side to keep the cork moist, until 2036.
